Many Cascade users do this quite frequently for news and events
I would suggest having a 2010 (year) folder - month folders (for
each month) - index page (for the listing that should be a "Event
Monthly Index" Content Type or whatever name you prefer). Then
store your Events in the corresponding month folders.
For your "Monthly Event Index" Content Type. In your main
content region, I would assign a Current Folder Block and a
corresponding Format (velocity or XSLT would work) that formats the
output for all pages in that folder that are not your Event Monthly

specifics of this. This is just a high level description of how we
have implemented this in the past.
