This behavior is typically caused by someone changing the Access
rights on a parent Folder somewhere and checking the option to
Apply to Children. When this happens, the Access
rights set at that parent Folder are set for all of the Folder's
child assets as well (thus overwriting any Access rights that may
have been there to begin with).
There is a related idea on our Idea Exchange
here. Be sure to read over the comments and vote it up!
I was going through some older discussions and noticed this one
was still open. Were you able to figure out what caused the
permission change? Was it a change at the parent level that was
applied to the child assets?
No, I never did figure it out. Like I said earlier, I know that
if you put permissions on a parent folder, you don't see that same
user within each folder. But in our situation, every folder (or at
least a large proportion of them) had different users on each child
folder. The only way I've been able to do something similar is by
going through each folder and changing the permissions there.
Due to the age of this discussion and because we are not able to
find a way to replicate this issue, I'm going to go ahead and close
this discussion. Please let us know if you encounter this behavior
in the future and we would be glad to look into it.
